⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a haunting, romantic tale of two lovers torn apart yet finding their way back to each other. I cried through the turmoil and smiled at the happily ever after. I learned that love could go through growing pains and come out beautiful and more vital.
Charlotte and James had such a tumultuous journey. I loved how Charlotte picked up the pieces of her life, although never complete, and lived a fulfilling life. She had emotional fortitude in spades. James was a tragic figure. His isolation and self-imposed torture tore at my heart. Charlotte’s imposing father and empathetic brother rounded out the characters satisfactorily.
The plot was highly character-driven. Most of the action was in the background. The characters were in their heads frequently. When the characters interacted with one another, there was magic. The plot kept my attention fairly well. I also enjoyed the Beauty And The Beast undercurrents.
The book dealt with serious issues. Yet the love between the couple persevered. A quick read, I read it in one sitting. A good escape from reality for a few minutes!
I received an ARC of this book through Booksprout. This is my honest, voluntary opinion.
This book is the first in the Second Chance Regency Romance series. This is the first book I have read from this author. It was a solid start to a new series. There are a few items to improve upon for example scene length, it was inconsistent, some scenes long, some too short. Overall a very pleasant read.
