An Outsider At The Highland Court by Celeste Barclay

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

An Outsider At The Highland Court is a gritty, sexy, turbulent romance that adds to the greatness that is The Highland Ladies series.  Rab and Catherine find themselves embroiled in a star-crossed lover’s affair that has them keep their love hidden.  The characters had rich layers and were multifaceted.  Rab’s honor and integrity shone through his personality.  Rab had flaws and imperfections, which help create a larger-than-life character.  Catherine is feisty, spunky, and knows her mind.  Her inner beauty lights the page.  The couple’s connection is potent from the beginning.  The passion is hot and fiery yet tender and romantic at the same time.

The plot…wow!  It is intricate and perfectly developed.  The history is mixed in with the story in a way that is organic and believable.  Although graphic at times, the violence added to the validity of the story.  The plot flowed well; I did feel it picked up speed at the halfway point.  The many layers of the plot added to the beautiful world that the Highland Ladies have created.  There were many moving parts to this story, all flowing and falling effortlessly in place.

An Outsider At The Highland Court is the fourteenth book in The Highland Ladies series.  These stories of intrepid ladies-in-waiting and the brawny highlanders they tame are a mix of everything.  Each story is as unique as it is beautiful.  I gave this installment four and a half stars rounded to five.  I had no complaints; it was a fantastic book.  I already have several five-star favorites in this series; I loved those a fraction more than this book.  That being said, this was an electric, bright-shining star of a novel.  This series is phenomenal, and this book is a testament to skilled, entertaining writing.  As usual, Celeste Barclay outdid herself!  This novel is a heart-pounding romance that grabs you on page one and takes your breath away.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Booksprout.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
