My Pirate At Midnight by Jocelyn Vonne

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Pirate At Midnight was a solid start to a new series.  After a brief, unexpected encounter, Julienne finds herself as an unwanted guest aboard Captain Bruce Austin’s pirate ship.  Bruce and Julienne’s journey is full of intrigue, action, and passion.

Two issues held this novel back.  First, there were multiple, almost random, points of view that seemed confusing and unnecessary at times.  Secondly, the story was too long.  I felt some sections of the book could have been more concise without damaging the storyline.

That said, there is a lot to love about this book.  Both Bruce and Julienne are vivid, spirited characters.  I love the writing, and the plot was engaging and entertaining.  The pace moved well, and the backdrops were beautifully described.  There were humorous moments that I enjoyed.  The back-and-forth banter between Bruce and Julienne was funny.  The couple had a passionate connection that grew throughout the book.

The first copy of this book had a cliffhanger.  In the final copy before publication, there is a new conclusion.  I loved the new ending.  It cleared up a lot of questions and gave Bruce and Julienne a very satisfying happily-ever-after!

My Pirate At Midnight is the first book in the Satin & Swords series.  Jocelyn Vonne has created magic from high-octane, smoldering, vibrant pirate romance.  There is room for improvement and enhancement; however, I look forward to the second book.  This was an excellent jumping-off place for a series with all kinds of promises!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the author.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
