In Lieu Of A Princess by Meredith Bond

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

In Lieu Of A Princess is an easy-to-read, lighthearted romance.  Lucinda North is capitulated into impersonating a princess.  Anthony, the Earl of Melfield is tasked with escorting the princess around town.  As Lucinda gets more comfortable in her new role, Anthony falls for this enigma of a princess.

The storyline is straightforward and flows well.  I found Lucinda lovable and related to her even if she lived a lie.  Lucinda’s journey of becoming a princess leads her to self-discovery.  I liked Anthony’s kindness and ability to look past the obvious and see the truth.  I would have liked more spark between Anthony and Lucinda; their relationship could have developed more decisively and quicker.  However, the stolen moments the couple had alone were sweetly passionate.

In Lieu Of A Princess is the first book in the Royals & Rebels series.  There is a prequel to this series in the anthology Naughty Or Nice.  I enjoyed this book.  However, there was one giant hurdle for me – a cliffhanger.  I might not be happy about cliffhangers, but I can accept them when I know beforehand.  This cliffhanger was a complete surprise.  I had fun reading this book and can even appreciate the conclusion.  I will be reading the next book in the series.  I wished I had been forewarned.  That being said, In Lieu Of A Princess kept me entertained and turning the page.  Meredith Bond’s new series has promise, and I look forward to the next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the publisher.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
