Her Unexpected Match is the first book in the Crescent Matchmaker series by Lacey Baker. This was such a fun, entertaining romance! The plot reads like a romantic comedy, in a good way. What I loved most about this book was it left me smiling.
Ryan Parker lives on a small island and works for his family’s restaurant. It is the Parker family’s legacy, and all the family members work there in some capacity. Ryan wants more for the restaurant and struggles with investors and his dad. Ryan is an all-around good guy. There was no artifice to Ryan, and I loved that.
Allie Sparks always sees the glass half empty. Allie is emotionally closed off. Allie comes to Crescent Island to write an article that has to save her career. I loved watching Allie’s metamorphosis from being this unhappy, negative person to opening her heart to happiness and love.
Ryan and Allie’s connection is tentative initially, but grows into an attraction the couple can’t deny. This is an easy-to-read, light story that is extremely romantic. I enjoyed all the vibrant secondary characters, especially nana and the great dane, Optimus! The background of the charming island added richness and depth to the story. Lacey Baker has created an upbeat, lovely romance. This is a firm foundation for an exciting new series!
